Co-Founder & CEO

Dr. Daniel Tapias

He has over 30 years experience in AI, particularly in research and product implementation, in training data preparation, and in using AI in real-world applications. He was associate professor of Electrical Engineering at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and received his PhD in Telecommunication from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Expert in Speech and Language Technologies, where he researched for fifteen years. He was visiting scientist in AT&T Bell Labs (Murray Hill, NJ, USA) and in Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh, PA, USA). He is co-author of a number of books, published over 50 papers, and has taught over 30 courses.

Previously, Dr. Tapias was Senior Strategy Consultant of Telefónica on Innovation, and created and managed the User Experience Area at Telefónica Movistar. He led and managed the Speech Recognition and NLP team in the Research and Development Center of Telefonica. He also founded, co-founded and managed other Artificial Intelligence Companies such as Agnitio and Sigma Artificial Intelligence in the US, Spain and the UK.

Nuria Gómez

Is currently Founder & CEO of Tax Planning, and co-founder and CFO of https://sigma2.theseaisdark.design/.
She has over 25 years experience in business consulting in the areas of Taxation, Accounting, purchase-sale of companies, Human Resources and Labor. She received her BA in Economics and Business from Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and her Master degree in Tax Consultancy for Enterprises from Centro de Estudios Financieros.
Previously, she was Tax Consulting Manager in Cableuropa (ONO Group) and in Coopers & Lybrand, where she specialized in comprehensive advice for large companies, financial and accounting advisory, international taxation, related transactions in multinational groups and advice in purchase-sale of companies.
She has an extensive international experience with US and EU multinational companies and is expert in double taxation treaties, audit processes and international accounting principles. She also co-founded and managed other Artificial Intelligence companies such as Sigma Artificial Intelligence and Artificial Cognition in Europe and the US.

Executive Senior Advisor

Dr. Jean-Claude Junqua

Has 25+ years of successful experience as a global executive in the United States, Europe, and Japan. During his tenure at Panasonic, he led the global speech activities involving teams in the United States, Japan, and China. He served as Vice President of Panasonic North America and developed the R&D activities of Panasonic in Silicon Valley. After leading an internal corporate startup in the area of Health and Wellness, he has been involved with numerous startups and public companies, helping them innovate and reach their next level of growth.

He is the author/co-author of more than 100+ articles along with 3 books in the area of speech recognition and corporate/startup innovation. He is named as an inventor or co-inventor on 100+ patents.

COO

Antonio Hornero

is the Chief Operations Officer of Sigma.
He has a Master’s degree in Mathematics, an executive MBA in Economics, a postgrade in Corporate Finance & Venture Capital and PADE-AMP in Business/Managerial Economics.

Previously, he was CFO and COO in Electrosteel, Managing Director in Steel Beton, both of them were manufacturing companies. He also was Telecom Senior Director in Unisys, Director in KPMG, and Manager in Deloitte and in Telefónica. He has an extensive experience in human resources, operations, finance and international projects. He has strong analytical skills, seasoned at looking for business opportunities, and is expert in data driven process optimization and problem solving.

CTO

Dr. Jesús Bernat

is the Chief Technology Officer of Sigma.
He obtained his Computer Science degree in the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia and his PhD in the School of Telecommunication Engineering of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. He has over 25 year experience in AI and IoT.

Previously, he was CTO of Muving and co-founder and CTO of Drivies, a start-up that developed a product to help users improve their driving habits. He also worked for Telefónica. Initially in the Research and Development Center, working in Speech Technologies product development and later insurance telematics. Before Telefónica, he was software engineer in Dragon Systems, leading the international software engineering team in a number of projects, including the Dragon NaturallySpeaking recognition product.

CLO

Pilar Plasencia

holds a law degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, master in business consultancy and labor law  in the Escuela de Práctica Jurídica and master in new technology law and intellectual property rights in the Instituto de Empresa, among other courses and masters.

She has developed her professional career in Telefónica for more than 25 years. Most of this time she led the Legal Department and acted as Secretary of the Board of Directors, in the Research and Development Center of Telefonica, which was dedicated to research and innovation activities for the telco sector. Later, she joined the CCDO (Chief Commercial Digital Officer) team, made up of different companies, leading the Legal Department in the Product Innovation Unit. When she left the Telefonica Group, she worked for several companies and clients in the technological field until she joined Sigma´s Project.

She is expert in telecommunications and new technology law, corporate law, data protection, intellectual property rights, technology transfer and licensing, and national and international contracting among others. Enthusiastic advocate of equal opportunities, diversity and inclusion in the conviction that teamwork, together with the union of different profiles, effort and personal enthusiasm are the drivers of change to a better world.
